Woman's Ex-Boyfriend Accused of Killing Pomeranian, Returning It's Paws in a Bag

A California man, Ryan Watenpaugh, was arrested after killing his ex-girlfriend's Pomeranian and returning its severed paws in a bag outside her apartment. Watenpaugh and his ex-girlfriend were having a fight when the Pomeranian, Bear, fled out the back door of her apartment and when she returned Watenpaugh and Bear were gone.

Watenpaugh allegedly cooked the Pomeranian and secretly served it to his ex-girlfriend during dinner. After the meal, Watenpaugh sent her a text message asking her how her dog tasted and what he planned to do with the remnants of Bear. The women told the police that she seen Watenpaugh pull up to her apartment around 1 a.m. and leave the bag containing the dog's paws outside. Further, she stated that while Watenpaugh and she were dating that he assaulted her and held her against her will.

Sheriff Deputies and special agents from the State Corrections Department arrested Watenpaugh during a traffic stop after the incident was reported to the authorities. Watenpaugh admitted to officials about sending the text messages to his ex-girlfriend and dropping off the dog's paws at her home. During the search of Watenpaugh's residence, authorities found an AK-47 assault rifle and multiple high capacity magazines.

Watenpaugh is charged with domestic violence, false imprisonment, stalking and animal cruelty. Watenpaugh is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
