Orange County Woman Sentenced for Attempted Murder of New Mother to Kidnap Infant

An Orange County woman who lied to her boyfriend and family about being pregnant was sentenced to 24 years in state prison after pleading guilty to one felony count each of attempted murder, kidnapping a child under 14 years of age, first-degree residential burglary, criminal threats, False Imprisonment by Violence and three felony counts of aggravated assault with a knife causing great bodily injury.

In April 2010, the woman lied to family and friends that she had given birth but that the baby had to remain in the hospital for medical reasons. She then went to a medical clinic and befriended a woman who was about to give birth. Soon after the baby was born, the woman went to the new mother's home and tried to suffocate her with a plastic bag and a pillow. The mother struggled, so the woman stabbed her three times in front of her children, all under the age of four. The mother escaped with her two older children to a neighbor's house and called 911. Neighbors pled with the woman to give the infant back, but she didn't do so until police arrived. The mother was taken to a hospital where she was treated for the stab wounds and released.
