Los Angeles Woman Facing Torture Charges After Abusing Her Adopted Children

Los Angeles Woman Facing Torture Charges After Abusing Her Adopted Children

In mid-January, a Los Angeles woman reported that her two adopted children were missing, prompting a search by the Los Angeles Police Department. The children, ages 7 and 8, were found hiding under a blanket near a parked car near their home, without winter clothes in 20-degree weather. They told investigators that they ran away from home because they could no longer endure the woman’s abuse.

The children accused the woman of locking them in separate bedrooms when she went to work each day and said they had to use waste baskets in the rooms when they needed to relieve themselves. They also allege that the woman withheld food and punished them by zip-tying their hands behind their backs and beating them with items like electrical cords and hammers. Both children had injuries consistent with the alleged abuse, including marks on their wrists indicating they had been held with a zip-tie restraint. Since the children were home-schooled, there were no school officials to report the alleged crimes.

The woman now faces felony counts of torture, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, battery and cruelty to a child. She has pled not guilty to the charges, however, she remains jailed on $2 million bail.

If you, or someone you know has been charged with torture, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, battery, child abuse, Cruelty to a Child, assault or any other type of crime, it is essential to hire a Los Angeles criminal defense attorney who can aggressively fight the charges against you.
