Los Angeles Teacher Charged with 23 Counts of Child Molestation

Elementary School teacher, Mark Berndt, has been arrested and charged with 23 counts of Child Molestation. The investigation was launched after a CVS photo technician alerted authorities of suspicious photos of blindfolded and gagged children.

Berndt would regularly tell his students that they were going to play a "tasting game," in which children were blindfolded and, in some cases, gagged with tape. Berndt then used a blue plastic spoon to feed children a white substance that DNA tests later revealed to be his semen. The students were told to tell Berndt whether the substance tasted salty or sweet. The alleged victims were boys and girls ages 7 to 10.

Berndt was immediately removed from his classroom in January 2011 after Los Angeles Unified School District officials were notified of the allegations. He was fired at the next board meeting. The acts that Berndt is charged with committing took place from 2005 to 2010, though detectives are still trying to determine how far back the alleged abuse occurred.
