U.S. Open Tennis Umpire Arrested for Murder; Bludgeoned Husband with Coffee Mug

In April, a high-ranking umpire on the U.S. pro tennis circuit, Lois Goodman, allegedly bludgeoned her husband to death with a coffee mug, then told police that he took a fatal fall down the stairs of their Woodland Hills home. At the time, she told police that she was working and not at home when the accident occurred.

Within weeks, a Los Angeles County coroner's medical examiner found that the sharp-force injuries to Mr. Goodman's head were inconsistent with an accidental fall and more consistent with an attack. Authorities believe that Mrs. Goodman smashed Alan Frederick Goodman's head with a coffee cup and, when the cup shattered, continued to stab him with the sharp edges of the broken handle.

Mrs. Goodman was taken into custody at a hotel in New York City, where she was preparing to work at the U.S. Open tennis tournament. She waived extradition in a Manhattan courtroom and will be returning to Los Angeles to face the Murder charge.

If you or someone you know has been charged with murder, attempted murder, assault, or any other type of crime, it is important to immediately contact an experienced Los Angeles criminal lawyer who can aggressively fight for your future.
