California Woman Charged With Felony Battery After Punching Son's Principal

A California woman has been arrested after committing battery, criminal threats and a hate crime against her son's elementary school principal.

The principal, Evangelina Ramos, had recently introduced a new, stricter dress code at her school and had been enforcing the new rules for weeks. When she saw a third grade boy in a T-shirt depicting skulls and crossbones, she found it inappropriate for school wear and told him that he would have to change his shirt or turn his shirt inside out. While Ms. Ramos discussed the situation with the boy's mother, Pami Gibbs, Gibbs became angry and punched Ramos at least two times, while shouting racial slurs.

Ramos was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. Gibbs fled the campus, but turned herself in two hours later. She was booked on two felony charges of battery and criminal threats and three misdemeanors, including hate crimes.
