First Conviction Under New California Cyber Impersonation Law

First Conviction Under New California Cyber Impersonation Law

In January of this year, California passed a new state law making it illegal to Impersonate through Internet Web Site or by other Electronic Means. Los Angeles has recently seen its first conviction under this new law.

Jesus Felix, 22, was arrested after his former 16-year-old girlfriend's mother found several online profiles containing her daughter's information and sexually explicit photos. Felix had created around 130 fake accounts on social networking sites in order to harass his former girlfriend and made several harassing phone calls to the girl's mother.

Felix recently plead no contest to two counts of violating the Impersonation Law and one count of making harassing phone calls. He has been sentenced to five years of probation, 30 days of Cal Trans work, a one-year suspended jail sentence, as well as counseling and sex therapy classes. He is also ordered to stay away from the victim and to have no Internet access during his probation.

If you, or someone you know has been charged with Impersonation through Internet Web Site or by other Electronic Means, Stalking or Cyberstalking, consult with Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney, Robert M. Bernstein, for a free consultation today. Don't hesitate to contact the firm today.
