Los Angeles Man Enters Guilty Plea in Rape and Body Hair Shaving Case

John Marshall, former Redondo Beach Police officer, was arrested in 2009 after allegedly drugging a friend, then raping him and shaving all his body hair.

Marshall and his victim were acquaintances and had been out drinking together on a few occasions. The victim went to Marshall's home one day to work on his computer. Marshall gave him an alcoholic beverage to drink, shortly after which the victim became physically incapacitated and was unable to stop Marshall from raping and shaving his body. The victim later woke up alone on Marshall's sofa and left. Doctors who treated the victim in order to determine if he had contracted any sexually transmitted diseases alerted authorities of a suspected Rape.

At the time of Marshall's arrest, police had investigated previous child molestation allegations involving him and teenage boys, some dating back to the 1970's. There had also been allegations that Marshall distributed drugs to Redondo Union High School students.

If Marshall had taken his case to trial, he could have faced up to eight years in prison upon conviction. Marshall decided against going to trial because he feared the longer sentence and possible testimony from the old Molestation allegations. Instead, Marshall entered a plea of "no contest" to a charge of Sexual Penetration of an Intoxicated Person in exchange for three years in prison. Upon his release, he must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
