Investors have accused Jody Foster's estranged father, Lucius Foster III, of bilking them out of more than $100,000 in a scheme to build modular homes.
Foster is accused of conning 20 people to make $5,000 down payments on 2,000-square-foot, three-bedroom homes made from 40-foot Chinese shipping containers. His website, Modernistic Properties, sought buyers on Craigslist and other online sites. Authorities expect more victims to come forward as prosecutors build their case. Foster told at least half the victims that he is Jodie's father as part of the scam to build up trust.
He has been charged with seventeen counts of Grand Theft and seven counts of Contracting Without a License. If convicted of all charges, Foster could face more than 20 years in prison.
