Sherri Wilkins, 53, a substance abuse counselor, has been sentenced to 55 years to life after striking a pedestrian, Phillip Moreno, 31, and driving for more than two miles with Moreno lodged in the windshield. Wilkins left the counseling center where she worked in Torrance with a blood-alcohol content of double the legal limit.
Wilkins hit Moreno as he was crossing the street and proceeded to drive more than two miles with Moreno stuck in the windshield before motorists were able to flag down Wilkins and make her stop her vehicle. When police arrived at the scene, Moreno was still alive but was later pronounced dead at the hospital. At the sentencing hearing friends and family of the victim stated that if Wilkins stopped then he may have had better chances of survival, now they will never know.
If you or someone you know has been arrested for driving under the influence, multiple DUI, felony DUI, drug DUI, or
vehicular manslaughter, then you could be facing lengthy prison sentences and steep fines. Not to mention you could lose your freedom, your license, your reputation, and future chances of having a career. Life in prison is the fullest extent of the law and now Sherri Wilkins will have to spend the rest of her days behind bars.
