Juan Diego Valencia, 31, was convicted of second degree murder of his co-worker, Selene Mayoral, 24, after shooting her in the head and pushing her body out of the car. Valencia was stopped by a Los Angeles Sheriff after he turned left without signaling, but before the sheriff could get out of the patrol car, Valencia shot Mayoral in the head and sped off.
In the months prior to Mayoral's death, Valencia and Mayoral became friends and started using meth together. On the night she was murdered, Mayoral called and texted her mother to come pick her up. She told her mother that Valencia would not let her leave. A couple hours later she called her mother and told her she no longer needed to be picked up. Valencia held her hostage for three hours and beat her. Valencia faces 47 years to life in prison.
