Posted By Los Angeles Criminal Lawyer || 25-Oct-2013

Lights Over Paris singer known as Robb "TaLLLLL" University, whose real name is Robert Mawhinney, 30, is charged with making false statements to obtain millions in loans in order to fund his musical career. Mawhinney's band appeared on the Billboard Heatseeker Albums Chart with their hit "Turn Off The Lights."

Mawhinney applied for more than $11 million in loans by submitting false statements showing he had millions in cash savings. He actually had less than $10,000 in savings. Mawhinney spent more than $750,000 to pay for travel, entertainment expenses and a tour bus. He also helped two associates fraudulently obtain more than $1.7 million in loans for their own music business.

Mawhinney plead guilty to four counts of making false statements to federally insured banks and one count of money laundering. The day after making the plea, he again began making false statements to a financial institution in an attempt to get more credit. The statements caused the Judge to revoke his bond. Mawhinney was sentenced to 7 years in State Prison.
