Jared James Abrahams, 19, plead guilty to "sextortion" case involving Miss Teen USA, Cassidy Wolf, 18, and at least seven other women. Abrahams was accused of extortion for allegedly using software known as malware to control computer webcams of victims and take nude photographs or videos of them. Abrahams threaten to post the illegally obtained photos if his targets did not send him more nude images or strip for him in camera. At least two complied with his demands.
The FBI first learned of the alleged "sextortion" from Wolf who became concerned when she received an alert from a social networking site saying her password had been changed. She then received an extortionate email with nude photographs attached. Abrahams gained unauthorized access to the accounts of multiple victims in Southern California, Maryland, Ireland, Canada, Russia and Moldova.
Under the plea agreement, Abrahams faces up to 11 years in federal prison and fines up to $1 million. Abrahams must also notify his probation officer before using any computer or any similar device capable of accessing the Internet or email as well as upgrading software. He cannot possess nude images on those devices, contact his victims or come within 100 yards of them.
