Woman in Garden Grove severed husband's penis

Posted By Attorney Robert M. Bernstein || 2-May-2013

Catherine Kieu, 50, was found guilty on Monday of torture and aggravated mayham for cutting off her husband's penis. Kieu was also convicted of a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a knife. She faces a maximum possible sentence of life in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced June 28.

Kieu was arrested the night of July 11, 2011, after she prepared an Ambien laced dinner for her 60-year-old husband. As he slept, Kieu tied his legs and arms to the corners of the bed with rope. When he awoke she pulled down his pants, grabbed his penis and cut it off with a knife. Kieu then went to the kitchen, threw it in the garbage disposal and turned the disposal on, "mutilating the organ."

Kieu called 911 and said her husband was bleeding. The man then spoke to the dispatcher and said his wife had cut off his penis. Garden Grove police arrived, and the man was rushed to the UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange. The surgery to reattach the severed organ was unsuccessful.
