Stolen iPhone Allows Police to Track Armed Robbery Suspect in Rancho Palos Verdes

Posted By Attorney Robert M. Bernstein || 30-Jan-2013

A masked gunman who robbed a home in Rancho Palos Verdes was arrested after an iPhone he stole allowed police to track him down.

Deputies believe the suspect entered through a sliding glass door in the back of the home while the wife was home alone. The gunman demanded money and jewelry from the woman and then forced her into the closet. She dialed 911 from her cell phone and deputies responded, but by then the suspect had already fled.

The suspect also stole an iPhone that belonged to the victim's daughter in the robbery. Using GPS technologies, officers tracked the phone to a home in Harbor City and obtained a search warrant. During a search of the home, the stolen phone along with a black handgun and the mask was found. The gunman was arrested and charged with robbery. The husband of the victim later identified the suspect as a man who had been hired to clean their pool four months earlier. He is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail.
