Two Orange County healthcare administrators were sentenced to state prison for their roles in a Medical Insurance Fraud scheme in which thousands of healthy patients were recruited to undergo unnecessary surgeries in order to bilk insurance providers out of approximately $154-million.
The two suspects pled guilty to multiple felony counts of conspiracy, capping or paying for referrals, grand theft, insurance fraud and making false and fraudulent claims, filing a false tax return and
money laundering. One of the defendants has been sentenced to six years in state prison and the other will serve five years and four months. A number of other defendants, including three doctors, have pled guilty to charges related to conspiracy and insurance fraud.
The charges and convictions followed an investigation by the California Department of Insurance and Orange County prosecutors, with participation by the California Franchise Tax Board.
If you, or someone you know has been charged with conspiracy, capping, grand theft,
insurance fraud, filing a false tax return, money laundering or any other type of crime, it is important to consult with a
Los Angeles criminal defense lawyer who can aggressively fight the charges against you.
