Released Inmate Arrested for Stealing Prison Issued Pants in Los Angeles

Posted By Robert M. Bernstein || 12-Oct-2012

A recently released inmate who had done time for theft was back behind bars after he was spotted in a Los Angeles Walmart parking lot wearing stolen blue jail-issued pants. A deputy saw Marcus Garcia running through the store parking lot and suspected that he had escaped from the nearby Pitchess Detention Center, so he followed him while calling 911.

Deputies rushed to the scene and detained Garcia at gunpoint after seeing him run toward an apartment complex. Once he was in custody, they determined that he had not escaped, but had been released from jail the day before after serving 180 days for Felony Petty Theft with priors and had stolen the inmate jumpsuit pants while being released.

Garcia was booked at the Santa Clarita Station on suspicion of possession of stolen property and remained jailed in lieu of $20,000 bail. If convicted, Garcia could face jail time and heavy fines.
