After learning that he was a suspect in his wife's 2009 murder, Los Angeles chef, David Viens, jumped off of an 80 foot cliff in Rancho Palos Verdes. The suicide attempt was unsuccessful and while Viens was hospitalized, he was interviewed by police and confessed to everything.
Viens, had suspected his wife of stealing from his restaurant and confronted her about it upon returning home from work one evening. Viens said his wife got angry with him and he forced her onto the floor where he wrapped her up and put a piece of clear duct tape over her mouth. When he returned four hours later, she was dead.
He placed her body in a large barrel and weighed it down with weights. After four days of boiling, he deposited the remains into the grease pit at Thyme Contemporary Cafe. He told investigators that he stashed his wife's skull in his mother's attic, but it was never recovered.
If convicted of his wife's murder, David Viens could face life in prison.
