California Father Attempts to Sacrifice His Son; Charged with Child Abuse and Assault

Posted By Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney || 4-May-2012

A San Diego man is in custody, accused of attempting to sacrifice his own son in a San Diego area cemetery.

Joseph Ramirez took his wife and son to Mount Hope Cemetery and told them his dead grandmother told him to sacrifice the 8-year-old boy. One of the candles Ramirez had brought for the ceremony broke, and he used a piece of the broken glass to slash open his son's forearms. He then slashed his own forearms.

A bystander who witnessed the incident and jumped in to help and was able to convince Ramirez to let the child go. When officers arrived, they transported Ramirez to a nearby hospital for treatment. Once he's released, officers say Ramirez will be booked into county jail on charges of child abuse and assault with a deadly weapon.

If you, or someone you know has been charged with child abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, battery or any other type of crime, it is important to contact a Los Angeles criminal lawyer who can aggressively fight for your rights.
