Prominent Los Angeles Physician Found Guilty of Sexual Battery and Rape

Posted By Robert M. Bernstein || 12-Sep-2011

Dr. Kevin Brown, an influential Los Angeles physician and son of the former premier of Bermuda, was arrested in 2008 after several women contacted authorities and accused him of sexually battering or raping them during medical examinations. Recently, after a trial lasting nearly three weeks, a jury found Brown guilty of 21 charges related to sexually assaulting nearly a dozen patients, including a 15-year-old and an undercover Los Angeles police officer.

Over the last five years, Brown molested multiple women at three of his clinics, giving female patients inappropriate breast or pelvic exams for unrelated complaints like lightheadedness or flulike symptoms. Prosecutors relied heavily on testimony of the alleged victims because no physical evidence was ever collected and some of the women waited years to report Brown.

Brown is facing nearly 17 years in prison at his sentencing, which was tentatively set for September 21, 2011.
