Registered Sex Offender Pleads Guilty to Production of Child Pornography

Gary Cochran, a registered sex offender from Huntington Beach, California, recently plead guilty to making Child Pornography after he was arrested for filming an 8-year-old girl engaged in sex acts. In 2008, a search of Cochran's home produced videos of the girl, as well as hundreds of other videos and images depicting child pornography.

Under Federal law, Production of Child Pornography carries a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years in prison. In a plea agreement, prosecutors agreed to a 312-month prison sentence in exchange for Cochran's admission of producing sexually explicit videos of the 8-year-old victim during a trip to the beach with the girl's family.

However, U.S. District Judge Dean D. Pregerson must agree to the plea deal. If the judge rejects it, either the government or the defendant could back out of the agreement, and the case would go to trial.
