| 7 Hour Standoff Between Police and Woman with Child Ends |

A woman whose identity has not been disclosed was involved in a 7 hour long standoff with Los Angeles police on the morning of July 2. The suspect allegedly fired shots at a nearby liquor store, and then locked herself, a 6 year old child, and a male friend inside an apartment. It is unknown whether she has secured a criminal defense attorney.
The LAPD was called around 2:30 a.m. when the liquor store owner reported the shooting. The apartment in question is located at the intersection of Pickford Street and Highland Avenue in Mid-City.
It was not immediately known whether or not a child was present in the building. The uncertainty meant that police had to be extremely cautious, according to Commander Andrew Smith. Around 8:30 a.m., 6 hours into the standoff, a 6 year old boy emerged from the building with the suspect's friend.
The suspect surrendered an hour later when police threatened to tear gas the apartment. Police do not know why she initially shot at the liquor store owner. She may be charged with attempted robbery, attempted murder, and resisting arrest.
