Los Angeles Kings Star Cleared in Date Rape Allegation
Los Angeles Kings star, Drew Doughty, has been cleared of a date rape allegation, ending a 16 month investigation. Prosecutors have declined to file a date-rape charge, concluding there was not enough evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
The woman who accused Doughty of raping her said that she had consensual sex with him in the past. However, last March she accused Doughty of sexually assaulting her at his home after they had been out drinking together.
If Doughty had been convicted of rape, he could have been facing serious penalties such as; up to eight years in the California State Prison, a maximum fine of $10,000, Sex Offender Registration, and a possible "strike" on his record pursuant to California's Three Strike's Law.
If you or someone you know has been charged with rape, date rape, statutory rape, sexual battery,
failure to register as a sex offender, or any other type of sex crime, it is crucial to hire a Los Angeles criminal defense lawyer who knows the law and can aggressively fight for your future.
