Teen Gang Members Charged With Rape of 11-Year-Old Girl
Five Riverside teenagers, who are members of the gang known as South Side Mafia, have been charged in an alleged gang rape of an 11-year-old girl in a Moreno Valley park bathroom. Four of the boys are under the age of 18; however, prosecutors are seeking to have them tried as adults based on the severity of their crimes. The four boys have already been charged in juvenile court with four felonies, including rape and sodomy against a child under the age of 14.
The adult suspect, 19-year-old Michael Sykes, was charged with six felonies, including kidnapping for rape, sodomy and assault of a minor.
It is alleged that an older girl, who may have been working for the gang, lured the victim into the park bathroom so the boys could trap and rape her. The girl has also been charged for abetting the commission of rape. All of the defendants will likely be prosecuted on gang-enhanced charges.
